Thomas Grant is a Partner with Freed Grant LLC where he focuses his practice on complex business litigation, commercial real estate, probate, and insurance defense matters. Tom helps businesspeople so that they can focus on their businesses and not their dispute. Through his counsel, he helps businesses to avoid legal issues when possible, resolves them when sensible, and takes them to the mat to fight when necessary. He is an aggressive litigator. Tom also routinely counsels clients in the areas of contract drafting and negotiation, data breach liability and response, and employment matters including non-competition and non-solicitation agreements. Tom also handles cases involving fraud, RICO, corporate governance and ownership, dissenter’s rights, unfair competition, and debtor-creditor issues.
In his litigation and commercial real estate practices, Tom represents developers and other businesspeople in matters concerning the purchase, sale, and management of commercial property, landlord-tenant issues, creditors’ rights litigation, foreclosure, condemnation, and more. He also represents clients in “business divorces” involving the breakup and division of their companies. He advocates for business clients on the relative rights and obligations of owners when disputes arise or are looming on the horizon.
Tom partners with his clients to approach difficult and uncertain business situations together, as a team. Tom ensures that his clients understand their legal situations, just like he understands their businesses and the nuanced facts and goals that are entrusted to him. Tom feels strongly that a lawyer’s job includes making sure each client understands what he or she is facing, what he or she can realistically hope to achieve with all available legal tools, and the strategic options and plans to achieve the best overall result. Communication is key to helping clients understand and get through what can be very stressful legal matters.
He brings creativity to legal matters that often results in a quick resolution. Tom can identify the fundamental and most important functional and legal aspects of a case. As he says, you must take a high view and see things in context, so you know what to pursue and what is a frivolous waste of time and money.
Tom has extensive experience practicing in federal and state courts in Georgia and throughout the Southeast, as well as in arbitration and mediation.
